One way I differ from the mythical Average American Voter:

27May08

When I hear Off the Wall on my way to work, it’s an exciting surprise that sticks in my head all morning.

From Largehearted Boy: muxfind searches muxtapes.

Today we here at TDR bring you an update on the pen report. When last we saw our fearless, gearhead-manqué heroine, she had coldly rejected the Pilot G-2 07 retractable. She now recognizes that fault does not lie with the pen; it can’t help being a gel tip.

After extensive experimentation, she has also coldly rejected:

- The Staples-brand “OptiFlow” Anna so kindly swapped for the cause (and it’s good she didn’t like it, because her part-time office orders from W.B. Mason)
(Note: first link was a picture in the Flickr “office porn” pool ha ha ha, desk monkeys of the world unite)

- The Pilot VBall fine tip (she’s chagrined to admit it, because darker ink/thicker lines = fierceness [skinny lines and light ink are pale, pallid, retiring, etc.]* but the ink practically bleeds through the page and the line is just too thick) (also, it scratches)

[* Management takes no responsibility for the content of this thought.]

- Either the Vision Uni-ball or the Pilot Precise grip (she lost one right away and did not mourn; she lost the other before barely trying it; she’s pretty sure the Precise grip was the sucky one but, um, yeah)

Next up: Uni-ball Vision (try two) or possibly the Vision Exact (difference seems to be looks and waterproof ink)

OFGMH suspects that in the end ye olde Pilot Precise will win. She feels disappointed that so far a new, untried option has not hit the sweet spot—like when she realized at college that she didn’t want to major in any cool non-h.s. subject, e.g., sociology, cultural studies, and oh God isn’t being an English major boring—but recognizes that—like studying English—when something works it works and so what if it’s kinda vanilla.

p.s. OFGMH apologizes to vanilla. No insult implied, vanilla. It’s just a figure of speech.
p.p.s. Overthink? Moi? (or what would that be—elle? lui? damn.)

I’ve decided I don’t like the Pilot G-I Grip. It’s a gel tip, and it’s splotchy. It’s not bad when it’s not splotching, but it gets indelible ink all over my hands. And I hate the little clippy thing. Why can’t they make pens without clips?

  2. Splotching is the WORST. I belong to the tribe of ink-stained wretches only metaphorically!

    I wish more pens retracted.

Do tell.
