EDIT: Goddamn it, I meant “Siva” the whole time. Reverse references, please.

—free? tickets to the Sox game fell into my lap; got there in the fifth; wondered why the music coordinator, whoever that lucky ducky is, chose “I Am One,” easily the best song Smashing Pumpkins ever recorded (second place: “Siva,” third: “Tristessa,” fourth through final the rest of Gish) for Jacoby Ellsbury’s musical motto; then hummed in my head and oh—

I just want to get there faster

Beautiful.

  1. Goddamn it x2, Tom Kielty (now writing the Herald’s new “Rocking with the Sox” column, a job no one’s better suited for than he) tells me he thinks Ellsbury’s walk-on music is in fact “Cherub Rock.” Vague mental jukebox says the intros are similar. ARGGH. Also, my future ex-husband Jonathan Papelbon has not been lights-out lately. Arggh. Hello, All-Star break. Maybe I need you.

  2. I put a “going to the game” blurb on Facebook before I went to Fenway on Patriots’ Day, and TJ, the sound guy, played the Minutemen over the PA. Whoa!
